What It Is
GHB is gammahydroxybutyrate or as it is often called 'GBH' is an anaesthetic, used in the United States for its sedating rather than painkilling effects. It is a colorless, odorless, salty tasting liquid that comes in small bottles.

What It Does
GHB, GBH's effects are a cross between alcohol and methaqualone. Inhibitions are lowered, leading to a calm feeling, or sometimes to a depressed mood. At higher doses it causes sedation, nausea, muscle stiffness, confusions, convulsions and some cases coma and respiratory collapse.

Some body builders also use the drug because it is supposed to promote slow- wave sleep, which is when muscle-building growth hormones are secreted by the body. It is not known whether the drug causes tolerance, psychological or physical dependence, although all three may be likely in some individuals.
